La Via Francigena passo dopo passo 2200 km da Canterbury a Roma
The diary of the journey along the Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome
This book is the diary of my long-distance walk, stage by stage, along the Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome, a pilgrimage of over 2,200 km through England, France, Switzerland, and Italy.
At the end of the Via Francigena journey, I felt the need to write a book to share the experiences and emotions I lived along the way.
A book written by a pilgrim for young people and adults who are curious about the fascinating world of long-distance walking, as well as for fellow pilgrims who wish to relive their own experiences.
We live in a world where information moves fast, and we ourselves move fast to keep up, constantly bombarded by multiple communication channels. Embracing slowness means rediscovering the authenticity of silence in our steps, the simplicity of welcoming gestures, and noticing details that speed hides. This is what walking means to me, and this is the essence I tried to convey in this book.
You can find it in major bookstores, on Amazon, and in online bookstores. The book is written in Italian.
Information
The book is divided into two parts. The first explains what the Via Francigena is, how I prepared for it, my motivations, and the types of people you may encounter along the way.
The second part, the travel diary, focuses on emotions through stories, anecdotes, and encounters along the route.
In the appendix, you will find:
- what I carried in my backpack, including the weight of each item — as I understand how challenging it can be to prepare a light pack that still contains everything needed for a long journey
- a list of stages and the total kilometers I walked
For multimedia and web enthusiasts, each section includes a QR code linking to photos and videos taken during the journey, which I hope will make the narrative more engaging.

Here I am — the author!
I am an IT professional, passionate about long-distance walking, mountains, and nature. I was born in Crema, Lombardy (Italy) in 1976.
I first discovered long-distance walking in 2018 on the Camino de Santiago, and since then I try, whenever possible, to walk at least one long-distance route each year.
In a fast-paced world like IT — where rushing, stress, and pressure are part of everyday life — I eventually felt the need to slow down, lift my gaze, and rediscover the beauty of simple things, like walking slowly or watching a leaf move in the wind.
For me, walking is exactly this: rediscovering simplicity, harmony with nature, and the peace that comes with it — without hurry, without anxiety, alone with my steps on an unknown path, attentive, open to the experiences, challenges, and situations each day brings.
These experiences become shared moments with other pilgrims in the evenings at hostels, or sometimes along the way.
We are lucky in Italy: there are many long-distance walking routes. In addition to the Via Francigena, I have also walked the Cammino di Assisi and the Cammino di San Benedetto, and they were all wonderful experiences — but many more are still waiting to be discovered!
This year, 2025, the Jubilee Year, the Via Francigena is part of the “Jubilee Pilgrim Routes of the Churches in Italy”, together with five other itineraries — another reason to approach the world of long-distance walking with a pilgrim spirit and to follow the path all the way to Rome.
